A few days before my birthday, I visited Northern Michigan's Leelanau Peninsula, where my childhood and best friend lives with his wife on a farm with 40+ acres..I love the landscape there,
it is very reminiscent of the Outer Cape, with sandy soil, scrubby foliage, and miles of beaches.
Unlike the Cape, however, the inhabitants experience lake effect snow, much like Buffalo, NY...
whilst we in Cambridge, Mass. got 50" by the third week in Jan., they have received over 110"
and the sky there is much more unrelentingly grey, so when the sun does come out, it is received with great joy....I cannot imagine not struggling with the challenges of Winter, for the sake of the coming Spring...and it will come.
